The Candy Apple Butterfly Chair

This chair was designed for all my fellow Etsians who have been asking for more "flamboyant" colors and style.  Thanks guys ;)

This is the chair's first day with me, I was up most of the night taking it apart down to the frame.  As you can see it had fantastic potential but it was hidden under a really old and run-down exterior.

Contrary to most chair reconstructions, this one required the back to be put on first.  I chose the butterfly print because it was such a bright and happy pattern and it registers as a diamond design from far away.  The candy apple green has always been one of my favorites and they look so great together!

Here the bottom is put in (underneath the frame, another very strange design feature) and the batting has been laid over the back.

This is hand-laying the welting.  I manufacture all my own welting to match the chairs exactly and though it is time consuming it's always worth it in the end!  This is always the very last step.

Tada!  The finished product.  This piece turned out so fantastically well.  It has two cushions (one sits down into the frame and is virtually hidden) that make it so comfortable and the top cushion is fully reversible with the candy apple green on the other side!  I love this Asian inspired chair and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.  Cushions are my least favorite thing but I think I really really improved on them in this project.

African Queen Footstool

Katherine contacted me after she received her African Queen Chair and wanted a footstool to match, after much searching we finally found the perfect frame for it.  

It is solid walnut and very well made, no weaknesses or wobbles anywhere, the legs boast some incredibly beautiful curves.

This is after the frame has been sanded and re-stained with four coats of protectant/sealant and the top has been stripped recovered and refinished.

Here's the finished product!  The seat has been double layered in a high-density foam suitable for making it a seat as well and finished with hand-placed nail heading to match it's parent chair.  Congrats Katherine on your new footstool!
